Bubble wrap, double-walled cartons, foam corners and correct labelling — the small habits that decide whether your crockery survives the journey.
Wrap each fragile item individually, fill every empty gap in the carton, keep heavy items at the bottom, and mark cartons FRAGILE on all four sides so no one stacks weight on them.
Start with the right carton
A single-walled carton is fine for clothes and linen, but crockery, glass and decorative pieces need double or triple-walled boxes. Never reuse a soft, damp or previously crushed carton — it will collapse under stacking pressure inside the truck.
Wrap every piece individually
Plates, glasses, bowls and photo frames should each get their own layer of bubble wrap or foam sheet, taped closed. Two glasses wrapped together will always crack against each other on a long route.
Kill the empty space
Any gap inside a carton is movement, and movement is damage. Fill gaps with crumpled paper, foam or soft cloth until the box does not rattle when shaken gently.
Load heavy at the bottom
Inside the carton and inside the truck, heavy goes down and light goes up. Plates should stand on their edge like records, not stacked flat — edge-loaded plates survive vibration far better.
Label all four sides
Marking FRAGILE on the top only is useless once the box is stacked sideways. Write the room name and FRAGILE on all four sides plus the top, so loaders see it from every angle.
Special cases: TV, mirrors and marble
Screens, mirrors and marble tops should travel in wooden crates or original cartons with corner protection, always standing vertically — never lying flat with weight above them.
